Air Purifier Buying Tips

Choose the Air Purifier Technology: The purchase of an air purifier is based on personal needs and budget. Your primary consideration should be medical conditions like allergies and asthma. Then consider price. Air purifiers that are effective for allergy and asthma conditions will cost more than less effective air filtration systems.
  • True HEPA: The highest filter efficiency--99.97 percent--which is doctor recommended for those who have severe allergy or asthma symptoms. Honeywell is recommended by more doctors than any other brand.
  • IFD (Intelligent Filter Design): Permanent, highly effective electronic diffusion filter media (98 percent). No filters to replace. Ideal for those who want fresher, cleaner room air.
  • HEPA-type: Lower-grade HEPA filtration (85 percent to 99 percent) is less effective, especially for allergy or asthma relief. Less expensive than most other types of filtration.
  • Ionic-type towers: No filter. Generally uses metal plates as a collection surface. Low performance for room air cleaning. No filters to replace, but less effective performance. (UV bulbs will need replacement periodically.)
Figure Out Room Size: An air purifier should be verified for a room size based upon the AHAM Clean Delivery Rate (CADR). The higher the CADR, the faster the unit will clean the air in the room.
Look for the AHAM Seal: Products without the AHAM seal do not follow the strict verification guidelines and may underperform for you. All Honeywell air purifiers have the AHAM seal.
